Cincinnati State Planting

In December of 2012, students in a Landscape Orientation class at Cincinnati State planted 23 new trees on the school’s Clifton campus. The planting was made possible by the Green Partnership for Greater Cincinnati and Duke Energy, and is one of many ‘Taking Root’ tree planting projects throughout the region. Cincinnati State’s Clifton campus, which already functions as an arboretum, benefited from the addition of new tree varieties and native species.

“This will increase the diversity of our arboretum,” Kimberly D. Vasko, Landscape/Grounds Supervisor said. Vasko is also an adjunct professor in Cincinnati State’s Horticulture Department. In addition to involving students in decisions about where to plant specific trees and performing the actual planting, the Horticulture Department intends to incorporate the new species in its educational programming.
